Jumping Spider

The jumping spider is one of the cutest spiders in the spider kingdom.  They just happen to be my favorite spider.

Here is a great video of one of these spiders attacking a bee:

Here is another video of the most common type of jumping spider in our area. You can find them at the sides of your house in the warm sunlight. Watch for a tiny spider that runs in a jittery way:

The Snake Game

This game was flagged as inappropriate for elementary school students because of the advertising and sidebar links. I will look for a similar game but I will put the link for this website here: http://www.onemotion.com/flash/snake-game/

All the games on this site are fine, although not educational.

Have a Wonderful Summer Vacation!

Remember:

Read daily,
Write in a journal,
Practice your keyboarding,
Practice writing stories,
Use "Orchard,"
Memorize your multiplication facts,
and learn, ask questions,
and think about the world around you . . .

DUST

I have removed the game DUST from the PortaPortal, because some of the advertising is inappropriate for the younger students. I know it's a great game for the older kids so I will put the link here:

Remember, it's my job to protect children and some of the links on this site are better suited to older children.

This is the bookmark I am sending home with all students.  On the back I have some of the passwords, which will be usable during the summer.  Tumble Books is great for all students, kindergarten through fifth, as the books can be leveled and can be read alone or have the program read to them with some animation.

Orchard Now is critical for second through fifth grade and beyond . . . it gives added help in Reading and Math, in a fun and attractive way . ..

You are welcome to use the Portaportal all summer long. I will be working on it, I hope . .  adding new items and possibly organizing it a little better.

Welcome!

This is a picture of a very nicely set up computer area! I think that nearly all the students are remembering to put it this way after computer lab. Although . . . it's better if the mouse is UNDER the headphones:

This is perfect!

I have decided to make a blog so that I can communicate with you . . . all the students, staff, and parents at Grout.

Check in, now and then, for announcements and helpful suggestions.

Contact me, if you have any questions regarding the computer lab, the Portaportal, or if you have any suggestions.
